SS '18

Secure The Bag & WIG:

This SS18 season we are obsessed with an ‘IT’ bag and ‘IT’ hat. When talking headgear the bigger the better as we saw on the SS ’18 Valentino runway. You can also choose to go vintage with a bucket hat or baker boy hat aka Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice hat. When hitting the beach go for a vintage oversized straw hat. For an editorial look a veil on your hat will take you to the ultimate look of vintage glamour.

When it comes to the bag this summer the smaller the better! The micro bag trend is smoking hot and doesn’t get any cuter. Straw bags are also very in season and on trend, perfect for a day at the beach or a day out hitting festivals, the market or whatever. Go for the perspex bag for a edgy street style look this summer.

Prints! Polka Dot, Florals, Ankara:

Of course it’s no surprise that florals are in for spring but the new pattern of the season is the polka dot. Another print is that is trending is Ankara print, traditionally worn in West Africa is very vibrant and great for the spring and summer. Wear these prints in a flowing midi dress or a slip dress.

See straight through me:

We’ve been seeing this trend carry from season to season and I for one and glad it’s still going strong. Transparency can add the needed the spice to a cool outfit this summer. This trend goes hand in hand with the IT bag trend of the season, throw your regular bag in a transparent bag for a cool street style look. When it come to transparency its all about the layering.

Fenty puma set the tone for this trend  with a full on motorsport themed SS ’18 show complete with live  motocross stunts and pink sand dunes. However this trend is a spillover from seasons past and the athlesiure craze. I am glad to see a new spin on spandex to show off all the goodies this summer. As we saw on the SS ’18 Off White runway this trend does not have to be locked in the casual wear box, incorporate it into a glamorous look to add edge.

Ruffle Mania:

When I think of Ruffle’s I automatically think of Easter and spring. I for one love a frill but this trend isn’t just about adding one frill its about added as many as your hearts desire. It’s becoming apparent that simplicity is overrated and will you get you nowhere this SS season.  So take this trend and run with it!

Vintage appeal:

Lets take some time to throw it back, pick a decade any decade! Showing you can pull off a yesteryear trend is tre chic for the season. You can show off this trend by throwing a fanny pack on a modern look or you can take it all the way from head to two including a throwback swoop bang and square toe sandals . The 70’s seems to be the golden year of the season with the return of the bang and flips bob rocked recently by Rhianna and Bella Hadid as well as chic tunic dresses with lots of fringe. The 90’s is also still having a moment with the resurgence of logo mania, hip hop glam, tiny shades, scrunchies, FILA and TUBE TOPS!! On top of it all, the classic Hip-Hop brand Karl Kani has teamed up with Teyana Taylor and Pretty Little Things for a resurgance line!  Of course this is my ultimate favorite trend right now because my heart will always be in another decade.

Yup… Still trending:

Some trends are just extra sticky and last season after season. One of my favorite trends from the Fall that will carry on into the summer is the tailoring trend. Make sure you are keep it in season with light pastels (also trending) and shorten the bottoms with a skirt or capri pants.

Either you hate them or love them but you better get used to them. Runners aka Dad Sneakers will surely be popping up on the feet of your faves this summer. Pair with the tailored trend for a super hype beast look.
