FALL '17 TREND REPORT

FALL '17 TREND REPORT

SHOES

Ruched Boots:

I remember these boots being popular around 10 years ago but you know the saying what goes around comes around. They first went viral when they hit the Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2017 runway fully crystal encrusted. Celebs have been obsessed with this shape and style ever since.

Sock Bootie/Stocking Boot:

This boot/bootie is going strong from last fall, we saw these styles popularized by Balenciaga with the stocking boots or pant boots and Vetements with the sock bootie. Who doesn’t love a boot that will hug your ankle so you look sleek in jeans or a fall maxi? We saw this trend a lot during this year's New York Fashion Week. You can wear this with a mini or maxi this fall but my favorite way to rock this trend is with your statement outwear.

Loafers:

Loafers are the only flat you will need in your closet this fall to ensure you are looking modern and chic in and outside of the workplace. Don't worry, you don't have to splurge on the Gucci originals you can find styles similar at your favorite store such as DSW or Akira due to its popularity this season.

Sneakers:

We’ve seen sneakers on the trend list throughout multiple seasons... and this season is no different. From Rihanna still reinventing her Creeper Sneaker to brands such as Balenciaga showing a sneaker inspired heel on the runway; I don’t think this trend will slow up anytime soon. Pair your classic Vans with a pair of cool trousers and a T-shirt or oversized sweater for a cute casual vibe.

 Men's Fashion Flash:

One trend that has come as a surprise is the “dad sneaker” trend. Steph Curry released his dad sneaker the “Curry 2’s” also known as the “Chef Curry” and at the time the internet shunned this “dad sneaker”; memes about them went viral and we all had a laugh. Now we can find similar style sneakers from the Stussy & New Balance collaboration as well as the "dad sneaker" from the acclaimed Yeezy line. We all know once yeezy has approved a trend it’s going viral!

CLOTHES

Business Casual:

The burning hot trend of the season is mixing business with pleasure. The return of the late 80’s business woman is live! We saw this trend highly represented on runways and in street style at the most recent  NYFW with women wearing blazer dresses, blazers with jeans and full business suits. Vogue even did an entire music video portraying this trend using collections from Brandon Maxwell to Victoria Beckham. Get a plaid Blazer this fall and pair it with your favorite white booties and you will not fail.

Denim Suits:

The resurgence of the matching denim suit... (evil grin) Denim on Denim is not a revelation by any means, however the early 2000’s trend of the matching denim suit that Justin Timberlake used to wear so well is back!! You can rock this trend the old school way, with a jean jacket and jean pants that match to a T or with with a modern twist such as asymmetric buttoning or extremely oversized as we've seen on our fav Rihanna.

Statement Sleeves:

If you want to make a statement this Fall... say it with your sleeves! A huge trend on the Fall ’17 runways were sleeves that stood out. They can be past your wrist long, puffy, or off the shoulder. This trend is an easy way to elevate the classic --jeans and fancy top ensemble.

Mom Jeans:

Mom jeans are the new skinny jeans of this year. They can be paired with your fav fall sweaters and leather jackets for a very retro chic look. Make sure to tuck your shirt in if it’s long to show off the high waist style.

No Pants:

If you prefer not to cover up with mom jeans or slacks try ditching the pants altogether. You can rock the no pants look with an oversized blazer or shirt dress; pair it with a bootie or over the knee boot to bring it into the fall season.

Latex:

This trend is not new but it  is having a strong resurgence. I think this moment can be attributed to the Laquan smith F/W ‘17 show featuring a slew of sexy black latex pieces including pant boots ,bodysuits, and bodycon dresses. Kim Kardashian wore a strapless maxi from the line on the first day of the most recent  NYFW.  Now most of your favorite boutiques have been busting out the latex pieces for your buying pleasure. You can slay this trend with a head to toe latex look or you can sex up a casual outfit by adding a splash of the slick fabric.

ACCESSORIES

Belts:

Waist belts are back! Curvy girls rejoice. We can have our waists and eat cake too! This Fall throw a belt over your coat, blazer or dress to give that accentuated waist and add extra pizzazz to your outfit. Try to make sure the belt is large enough to stand out and cool enough to show off.

Berets:

The it hat of the season is a long lost love...the beret. Christian Dior made a statement last fall on the runway showing all looks with a black leather beret. This reminded us of how cool berets really make you look and feel. It’s a great way to add a little French charm to any outfit whether it’s jeans and a tee or full on outer wear. Get a beret and never have a bad hair day.

Fanny Packs:

I was so excited to pull out my fanny pack this summer once I noticed it was trending and the good news is that it is still trending this fall. Make sure you update this trend by getting different shaped fanny packs and don’t just wear them on your fanny, you can sling them on your shoulder or even wear it on your back as a mini back pack.

Jackets:

Trench coats specifically plaid trench coats are definitely trending due to the business trend..bomber jackets have not left the building, and a long Pea coat can take you a long way. An opulent jacket or coat this season will also help you pull off the excess trend with ease.

 STATEMENT TREND OF THE SEASON

Excess:

Gucci set the trend for excess, with their infamous show that pulled inspiration from Dapper Dan. Dapper Dan was known for his flashy sense of style and adding that extra Juj. If you want to know how to pull off this style all you have to do is... the most! Add one more accessory or throw on your most fancy item even with a casual ensemble. Buy that really huge flashy coat or pair of boots and layer it all together.
